Giving a Bark Out to Teachers! Thankful Thursday #WorldTeachersDay

Hi my furiends! It’s Dakota and I am here to tell you that today is World Teachers Day, a most important day. It is a day that aims to “raise awareness of the importance of the role played by teachers all over the world.” Teachers should be appreciated EVERY DAY, but sadly, they are not.

Don’t know if any of you know, but my Dad is a teacher. Or he was a teacher, wait, he is now a substitute teacher because he is technically retired. When Dad was a full-time teacher, he taught for 36 years. 26 of those years were spent teaching middle school in the inner city of Detroit. Dad taught Special Ed.  He barely  missed a day. Dedicated guy my Dad is and was. Makes a woofie proud. I wasn’t around for all of those years since I am only 10,  but my Mom told me stories about it so that is how I know. Never doubt what I know. I am a Shetland Sheepdog. I am a highly intelligent sort. We Shelties are quite high on the list of woofies who are considered to be extremely intelligent. Hence my propensity for being stubborn…but I digress…..

Dad’s family is full of teachers! Dad’s Mom and sister both were teachers. His niece also is a teacher.

I think the real reason my Dad became a teacher is because he is a dead-ringer for Albert Einstein:

Mom says when she was growing up teachers were held in high esteem. She said that in her house, if the phone rang and it was your teacher on the other end, “God help you.” In Mom’s house the teacher was revered and respected. Nowadays, if a teacher just looks at a kid the wrong way they are in trouble. They are disrespected and grossly underpaid…professional athletes get millions of dollars…..teachers have to spend much of their own money for various supplies for their classrooms. Teachers have to fight to just get a raise…..something is wrong with this picture.

Anyway, in salute of my Dad for all of the years he spent teaching and to teachers everywhere,  Mom and I want to give a huge THANK YOU to the teachers that Mom had who made a difference in HER life and we wanted to share some of our favorite quotes about teachers:

“I think the teaching profession contributes more to the future of our society than any other single profession.” – John Wooden

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” – Albert Einstein

“The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called ‘truth’.” – Dan Rather

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” – Henry Adams

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – William Butler Yeats

“Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” – Japanese

  • Woofies, tell your humans to take some time  and thank the teachers who helped to make them who they are today and while you’re at it, leave a comment telling us who YOUR human’s favorite teacher was!

Happy World Teachers Day!!!

Barks and licks and love,

Dakota
