It’s World Smile Day® !!

The World is a scary, sad place lately, but we must never, ever lose our ability to smile, laugh, and to do kind things for others! We need it NOW more than EVER! Who better than a “Smiling Sheltie” to help spread the love on World Smile Day®  ?? TAG! You’re it. Now you have to “Do an act of kindness.Make one person smile!

History of World Smile Day
“It was a simple thing, a circle with a few dots and an upturned curve, but put together Harvey Ball created one of the most iconic symbols the world had ever seen, and it would quickly come to infect everything from graffiti to modern-day emoji’s. We are, of course, talking about the smiley face, arguably the first emoji to enter the world. Harvey would later express concern that the sheer commercialization of his little symbol would strip it of its original intent and meaning. It was out of this concern that he created World Smile Day, a day devoted to the spreading of simple joy and love to everyone, regardless of race, gender, or geographic location.”

“Harvey sadly passed from this world in 2001, but the foundation he helped create, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation, has carried forth his message of simple peace and love as the sponsor of World Smile Day every year. Whether you’re simply expressing a bit of silliness or doing a small act of kindness to help someone smile, World Smile Day is your opportunity to help brighten the world and make the world a better place through the simple power of the smile.”

It’s #WorldSmileDay !!

From the World Smile Day website:

“As is well-known by now throughout the world Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the smiley face in 1963. That image went on to become the most recognizable symbol of good will and good cheer on the planet.”

“As the years passed Harvey Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol, and how its original meaning and intent had become lost in the constant repetition of the marketplace.  Out of that concern came his idea for World Smile Day®. He thought that we, all of us, should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world.  The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion.  Harvey’s idea was that for at least one day each year, neither should we.  He declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day®. Ever since that first World Smile Day® held in 1999, it has continued every year in Smiley’s hometown of Worcester, MA and around the world.”

“After Harvey died in 2001, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation was created to honor his name and memory.  The Foundation continues as the official sponsor of World Smile Day® each year.”

Smile through your tears and sorrow…#WorldSmileDay 2014

Even though we are still hurting and reeling with the loss of Dr.Lorie Huston, Dakota and I wanted to participate in the World Smile Day Blog Hop hosted by Sugar the Golden Retriever. and  Dory’s Backyard and Oz the Terrier.

Even though I don’t feel much like smiling, who CAN’T  smile when they see this face?

“Smile” was uploaded and bought on itunes and was sung by Josh Groban

If the video clicks off in less than 47 seconds, please click replay….it is a little LONGER than that but the video is being glitchy!!

Be sure to visit all of the blogs participating in World Smile Day on Sugar's Blog!

“Smile!” Dakota is on Clowie’s Corner Blog!

I am so sorry all! With my still trying to come to terms with the untimely passing of beloved Dr.Lorie Huston   I am finally getting a chance to catch up on some blogs and email and I just saw that Dakota is one of a number of fur babies who are honored to have been featured in Clowie’s special “Smile” post in honor of this Friday, October 3rd being “World Smile Day”

Admittedly, I don’t feel much like smiling today, but even I can’t resist my precious Dakota’s Sheltie smile. He gives it everything he’s got!
