Give-Away! “The Dog Bed YOU Design!” the Petoji Hybern8 (as seen on Kickstarter!)

Petoji has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

From the moment I was contacted by Petoji, (a company that specializes in premium dog gear),  asking if I would share their NEW line of dog beds,  Hybern8  (“The Dog Bed that YOU Design”) I was impressed. I was impressed with not only their products, but with the professionalism of this company. (And..they have a super cute Sheltie named Rory who is modeling in the video and some of the photos that I fell in love with!)  It is no wonder that their Kickstarter campaign met its goal in just a few days, but in order to offer more for YOU THEY STILL NEED YOUR HELP!

While I did not receive an actual Hybern8 to review, after learning about this oh-so-comfy-looking bed, I knew that it would be of great interest to all of you. How could it NOT be? From everything I have read and seen, this bed looks so comfortable that I want to sleep on it. It also looks beautifully made.  It is our pleasure and honor to share information with you about this exceptional bed.

Hybern8 is “the most comfortable custom luxury dog bed ever.” It’s designed and manufactured by Petoji in Fort Worth, Texas.

  • The custom cover is removable and replaceable
    • You decide how it looks, YOU choose your favorite colors and patterns for each part of the bed. (They will provide at minimum 20 and up to 100 fabric options depending on campaign funding.) All customization selections will be chosen at the end of the campaign.
  • “It’s more comfortable that any other dog bed.”
    • Filled with Cloud9 filling, a synthetic down alternative found in high-end duvets and pillows. No one else uses a filling this nice for a dog bed, but our dog’s deserve the best!
  • Everything is 100% washable. The cover and the pillow can be washed and dried good as new.
    • Backed by guarantee. Petoji’s Stay Fluffy Guarantee ensures that if your pillow ever needs a lift, they will re-stuff it at no cost. How cool is that??? I have never, ever heard of anyone who will do that!

  • Comes in 4 sizes
    • Mini for dogs up to 15 lbs, Queen for dogs up to 30 lbs, King for dogs up to 60 lbs, and Supreme for dogs up to 100 lbs.

  • Petoji’s Active Breathe Shield is the “best water-resistant liner there is”.
    • The top layer is waterproof nylon, the bottom is a DWR coated polyester that lets the bed breathe. Your dog won’t even know it’s there.
    • Custom toy baskets: Petoji is also offering custom coordinating toy baskets made from the same Hybern8 materials.

  • “Compared to other custom beds, Hybern8 has more customization options, better materials, at a much lower price. Other custom beds cost 200-300$ and they are nowhere near the same quality of material or manufacturing.”

WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?

  • Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform, and by backing their project you are buying your bed in advance which helps them buy the machines they need, the best materials they can get, and hire the right people to produce Hybern8 in their own Texas facility. Projected shipments for the first orders is August. As a backer you are getting onto the ground floor and really playing a role in making this happen!
  • Petoji needs your help to bring this project to life! Help them achieve their goal of getting their own manufacturing facility up and running in Texas to produce Hybern8 and continue to develop more great pet products.
  • Kickstarter ends May 18th

National Kids & Pets Day: Know an Aspiring Veterinarian? The Vet Camp Scholarship Contest -Dr. Chris Carpenter DVM

I was 11 years old when I told my mother that I wanted to become a veterinarian.   That doesn’t make me unique.   The majority of veterinarians practicing today made their career choice before they were 13 years of age.  Veterinary medicine is a calling that starts early in life.

The challenge is that it is hard to explore your dream at such an early age.

You want animal experience but so few organizations will let you volunteer until you are older.   You also yearn to see what an animal doctor does but many hospitals have policies that only allow older teens to shadow the veterinarian.   In time, you discover that there are a lot of age barriers to exploring your dream of becoming a veterinarian.  That is why I created Vet Set Go.

Vet Set Go  is the first and only community dedicated to teen and tween aspiring veterinarians.  Our goal is simple, ENCOURAGE today’s future veterinarians to explore their dream and show them HOW the can do it today.   We provide lots of ideas and one of my favorites is veterinary camps.

Veterinary camps didn’t exist when I was a future veterinarian.

They are amazing programs that a small number of veterinary schools in North America provide for younger students.  While they vary slightly from school to school, campers typically spend 5 days exploring veterinary medicine and getting hands on experience with animals.  In fact, campers often do things that I didn’t do until I was in veterinary school – like gowning and gloving for surgery.   They are truly a future vet’s heaven.

Photo Courtesy of Vet Set Go

That is why we are so excited to be offering three scholarships for future veterinarians to attend this summer’s Auburn University’s Junior VET Camp .  All aspiring veterinarians need to do is share their story and send us a photo   The contest runs through May 4th, 2017.

Surveys have shown us that “veterinarian” is the number one career choice of tweens.

So chances are good you know a future veterinarian or have one in your family.   Help them explore their dream today.  Share the Vet Set Go website and contest page  with the future veterinarian in your life.

Fun Facts About Names and A Thank You!

Hi all! Today is Fun Facts About Names Day  a day where people are encouraged to learn about the meaning of their names and the history behind them.

When Dakota first joined our family his name was “Tanner.”  Now, there is nothing wrong with that name, but to me, it just didn’t suit Dakota. I had liked the name “Dakota” for years and when I looked up the meaning, it said “Trusted Friend.” (that was the American Indian meaning and I am too lazy to look up what tribe it was).  That was it for me. I promptly named him Dakota.

As for me…the name “Caren” means “Pure” and it says it is a “Swedish baby name.” I have also seen the name attached to “Catherine” since my parents spelled my name in a non-traditional form. The question is “Pure” WHAT? (That is a rhetorical question, no need to answer! lol)

So, what does YOUR pet’s name mean? What does YOUR name mean?

Also, we would like to thank those who stopped over to Dakota’s blog to wish him a Happy Birthday. We try extremely hard  to always acknowledge our friend’s birthdays by leaving a comment on their blog,  and we do it whenever we are aware of a birthday, so we DEEPLY THANK those who took the time to stop by. Dakota received some nice photos/cards that we are sharing in the form of collages.

Once again we thank you all so very much!! We have another thank you planned for Friday, (hopefully!) of something special that Dakota received in the mail.

To us, a 10th birthday is a pretty big deal, (for that matter, ANY pet’s birthday is a big deal!) so once again thanks to those who visited Dakota’s blog on his special day.

Love Your Pet Day

Yes, yes, yes, I know I am preaching to the choir when I am saying that today is “Love Your Pet Day”………..because all of you who are reading this blog love your pets EVERY DAY, AS IT SHOULD BE!!! Sadly, those who still continue to abandon and abuse animals will never quite understand this day. We can pray that one day they will.

#Sponsored Giving Thanks for my Silly, Stubborn Dog #NutrishPets

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

It’s the night before Thanksgiving, and here I sit with the smell of cranberries cooking on the stove for the upcoming Thursday feast. The TV is on with no one watching. To my left is Dakota’s favorite red, white and blue ball that is  just waiting for someone to trip over it. Dakota and Cody are asleep in the vicinity. Our condo feels warm and cozy. Perfect.

It is hard to believe that in just a few weeks we will be saying goodbye to 2016. I have to admit, this is one year I am happy to kick to the curb. It hasn’t been kind on many fronts, but through all the challenges that were faced head-on, my pets are always there to make me laugh and give me the greatest gift they ever could, their unconditional love.

Today’s post was supposed to be entirely different from what it turned out to be. I was going to put a Turkey hat on Dakota, and take some cute photos and make it all “Thanksgivingy”, but Dakota made it clear that he wanted NO PART OF IT!  No amount of cajoling, treat bartering, or cutesy voices  would have him obey, he made it clear that he had enough of me chasing him around wanting to take photos.

My knee-jerk reaction was to be upset, my first thought was “what the heck am I going to write about now?”, but after looking at the photos and thinking, it dawned on me. How often do we forget that our pets have minds of their own? Some would disagree, but I believe our pets think and  have feelings, they are entitled to not want to always do what WE say they have to do, and if it is something that isn’t going to hurt them, then I say go with the flow.

in the photo above. No way was he going to listen!

Dakota didn’t sign up to be on a blog, I enlisted him without his consent!  If I don’t have the photos that I need, that’s my problem, not his.

So, since “life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans”, I re-grouped. There are  no silly turkey hats in this post. There is  just me, sharing photos of my sometimes stubborn dog, and often crazy cat, who make me laugh on a daily basis, multiple times per day, even when I don’t want to.

dakota-thanksgiving-nutrish-playing-with-cody

When Dakota and Cody both entered my life in 2007  I had no blogs. I didn’t look at them thinking of photo ops, or for what they needed to “do” to make me happy for my blogs, I loved them for THEM. I wanted them in my life because I love animals. Pets enrich the lives of their owners on every level. I wanted to give them love. I wanted them to be safe. They spend every day of their lives asking for nothing from me but to LOVE and  protect them. Dakota’s resistance to wanting his photo taken reminded me that he doesn’t need to pose or cooperate for a photo for me to love him. I love him because he is a wonderfully sensitive, fun, brilliant and silly dog. I love him because he “IS.”

Dakota, Cody and I are some of the lucky ones. My pets have a roof over their heads, a warm home. They have more than enough toys, tons of love from their Dad and me, they eat the most delicious food. Not all animals are as lucky.

When I began feeding Dakota Nutrish back in 2008, it was a no-brainer. I already was a fan of Rachael’s from TV, but my decision to feed them Nutrish was partly based on the fact that she has mad cooking ability, but more importantly, I trust Rachael Ray implicitly because I know how much she  loves animals.  Rachael’s pet food was created with the same love that she brings to her human food.  She brings that same love to a cause dear to her heart, Rachael’s Rescue.

A portion of Nutrish proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue®, which was created to help animals in need. To date, over $14MM has been donated. This money has gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for these unfortunate animals.

All of the Rachael Ray Nutrish products are available where you shop for your family’s groceries, making specialty recipes accessible and convenient for every pet parent.

Follow Nutrish !

Sometimes we all need a kick in the butt to see what is truly important. Whether or not Dakota cooperated for a photo shoot isn’t important at all. What IS important is that I love he (and Cody), for the amazing pets that they are, for the love and laughter they bring me EVERY DAY.

Today,  I give THANKS for Dakota and Cody, the 4-legged loves of my life!! I also give ENORMOUS thanks to ALL OF YOU, and ALL OF YOUR FUR BABIES who bring joy to ME every day. Last, but far from least, I give thanks to Rachael Ray, Rachael’s Rescue, and every one at the forefront and behind the scenes at Nutrish. THANK YOU for caring about all of our pets, EVERY WHERE!!! THANK YOU for all that you do!
