#Spon My Dog FINALLY wants to sleep in a bed thanks to the Brentwood Home Pet Bed! (Discount Code and Give-Away!)

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Brentwood Home, Dakota received the Brentwood Home Runyon dog bed in exchange for our honest review. All opinions are our own.

TEN…LONG…YEARS. Let me say that again, TEN…LONG…YEARS…that is how long it has taken me to find a pet bed that Dakota will use.  You name it, we tried it and Dakota would NEVER USE any pet bed that has entered our home, (other than a flat pad that was called a bed, but in my opinion was not a bona fide bed,  and even THAT was rarely used). Any and all pet beds that Dakota received were promptly given to family members and/or friends COMPLETELY UNUSED.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a California-based company,

they had seen Dakota on Instagram and asked me if I  would like to review one of their new beds. After visiting the Brentwood Home website, learning about the company and  after having viewed  their beautifully designed beds, I experienced a moment of totally forgetting  who my dog is. I jumped at the chance to review one of their beds. I had completely forgotten that MY DOG DOES NOT, NEVER HAS and most likely NEVER WOULD  sleep in a dog bed.  I was setting myself up for a disaster, or so I thought. Throwing caution to the wind I chose the  Runyon Deluxe Pet Bed , size Medium  (34-inch X 24-inch), my color of choice, Mocha.  I chose the size based on Dakota’s size (28 lbs),  and I knew the color would go perfectly with our furniture, carpet, floors…and…DAKOTA!

When  Dakota’s bed arrived, I looked at the long, narrower than I expected,  rectangular box and thought “There is a BED in there?” When I opened the box there was a beautiful bed resting covered in TONS of protective, heavy plastic wrapping! It was Dakota’s new bed that I was certain he would NEVER USE!

The color was just perfect and exactly as I hoped it would be!

With Dakota being a senior dog, I love that the gel memory foam and orthopedic support foam that this bed has, helps relieve and prevent body aches, joint pain, hip dysplasia, and arthritis.  Dakota sometimes seems a little stiff when he awakens and stretches and I am hoping this bed will help with that. The Runyon model that I have, also has bolster edges for additional support when needed. I was extra thrilled because I hoped that I would no longer watch Dakota sleep using the dining room table base as his pillow.

With all of the amazing features this bed has I wanted to sleep on it! The furniture grade upholstery cover is easy to wash and stain resistant!  Of course, because the bed was meant for Dakota, it was NOT “cat-resistant.”

Yep, there was Cody just smiling and dreaming away on Dakota’s new bed! After a few days, Dakota still hadn’t tried it and I was panicking. I went into the Sheltie group I am a member of on Facebook and asked if their Shelties used beds. The overwhelming majority said “No”, they preferred the floor. We all came to the conclusion that Shelties are so furry that they travel with their beds attached to them!  I was discouraged, but not about to give up! For the next few days I gave Dakota his treat dispenser IN THE BED. Maybe that would work! Worst case scenario would be that Cody would end up reviewing the bed, but I was still not giving up. Then, one night as I was sitting in the dark, (without a camera), I caught a glimpse of a furry creature  laying on the bed, it was Dakota! I didn’t want to discourage him from using the bed so I didn’t get my camera. I prayed this wouldn’t be the only time that he used the bed. It wasn’t…………he has used it EVERY NIGHT SINCE!

Best & Worst Pets for Apartment Living

FTC Disclosure:ForRent.com has sponsored and provided the content for this post.

Over time, dogs are reportedly more stinky than cats by a 2 to 1 ratio. And yet, the age-old personality question persists: Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Beyond personality, we wanted to look at the many other considerations of pet ownership that are important for apartment living. How much space does your pet need? How much care and walking will it require? Is it stinky? How much does it poop?

We set out to find statistics and data to answer these questions so you can find the best pet to suit your apartment life. Here’s what we found:

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit to Aid Hurricane Harvey Relief

Shelter preparing for arrival of Houston adoptable animals

donating 50% of all adoption fees to Houston shelters

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) will donate 50% of all adoption fees to local Houston animal rescue groups through the month of September to aid animal shelters devastated by the impact of Hurricane Harvey. The shelter is also making room for adoptable animals from the impacted areas, expected to arrive within the month.

FAMD has agreed to be one of the Michigan animal shelters finding homes for adoptable Houston animals. These animals were in Houston shelters and ready for adoption before the storm hit, and are being moved to make room to reunite lost pets with their owners. Said Elaine Greene, executive director of FAMD, “With so many animals in need of homes even before the storm hit, it’s especially urgent now to make room for all the pets in Houston that were lost in the shuffle.”

Through the month of September, FAMD will donate half of each adoption fee to one of several Houston-area shelters. Adopters will choose from a list of humane groups, including the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, one of the shelters coordinating funds and donation distribution to those affected by the hurricane. This offer includes all cats and dogs adopted from FAMD at the “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo” event at the Detroit Zoo on September 15 and 16. FAMD will bring several animals to find them new homes, thus freeing up space at the shelter for new arrivals.

About “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo”

The event is Friday, September 15 from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. For more details, visit MEET YOUR BEST FRIEND (SEPTEMBER)

About FAMD

My Dad is a CHEATER!!!! Camera Day

According to Days of the Year today is Camera Day. I thought it was a great chance to show you how my Dad cheated on Cody and I this past Saturday. You see, Mom and Dad went to Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday, June 24th (their wedding anniversary!), to attend the wedding of their cousin. They rode with my Uncle Bill and my Aunt Judy. Well, as evidenced by the photo below, it appears that SOME WOOFIE who just happens to be our cousin Punky, began celebrating early.

Hey Punky!! Why don’t you just make yourself a little more comfortable and steal my Dad while you are at it? He isn’t supposed to be petting other woofies!!!!

Barks and licks and jealous love, Dakota

(From the Mom: Punky is actually a sweetheart. She stayed on my husband’s lap during the entire  2 hour trip! She slept most of the way there, and was as content as could be!! We love her to pieces!!)

HOW TO CELEBRATE CAMERA DAY FROM DAYS OF THE YEAR: There is no better day than Camera Day to snap some photos during your lunch hour, on your commute to work, or whenever a moment of inspiration strikes. Cameras and photography have developed substantially over the years, from its early roots with the French inventor Joseph Niépce right up to modern-day digital photography.

Joseph Niépce was a French inventor; he is most noted as one of the inventors of photography and was a pioneer in the field. He developed the heliograph; a technique used to produce the world’s first known photograph in 1825, the view from the window at Le Gras the family’s estate. Keep your Pets Safe with the ASPCA Summer Safety Tips and Give-Away!

Hi  friends!! Today is the first day of summer here in the U.S. ! We had some crazy hot temps last week but thankfully it has cooled off a bit. With summer having arrived,  the hot weather will be setting in for good!

Many people with pets will be spending more time outside due to the warmer weather and that poses added risks. Everything from heat to fireworks. July 4th is right around the corner, (the fireworks cause many pets to escape and go missing), as a result  the ASPCA wants to remind pet owners of the IMPORTANCE of being sure that your pet has an ID. July 1st is also ID Your Pet Day. Your pet should have an ID tag with updated info, even microchips are great. Dakota has  a microchip, they are always a good idea.

The ASPCA has created this mini infographic with  super important safety tips to help keep your furbabies safe this summer:
