Sweet Rosh Hashanah Wishes!

FROM INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES:

Rosh Hashanah is one of the holiest holidays in the Jewish religion. The two-day holiday begins at sundown and celebrates the Jewish New Year. During the celebration, Jewish people take the time to appreciate and accept God as their king.

The Jewish calendar, which runs on the lunar cycle, determines the date of the holiday each year. The celebration begins at sundown and the following day marks the first full day of the celebration. Jewish calendar dates end at nightfall, which means this year’s Rosh Hashanah celebration will begin at sundown on Oct. 2 and end at nightfall on Oct. 4.

In Hebrew, “Rosh Hashanah” means “Head of the Year” and it’s also known as the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah celebrates the day that God completed the creation of the world and highlights the relationship between God and humanity.

While Conservative and Orthodox Jews observe the holiday over the course of two days, most Reform Jews celebrate Rosh Hashana for one day.

An important tradition during this holiday is Tashlich, which calls for Jews to go find a body of water, be it the ocean, river or stream, and cast away their sins. This is done symbolically by throwing bread into the water and the act allows people to reflect and correct themselves so they can focus on a new year.

At home, families gather for dinner prior to attending service the night of the holiday. They recite blessings over candles and wine. Families also indulge in challah bread or apples

“Feelin’ Groovy!”

Thank you dear furiends for your care and concern when I was at the Vet for my dental a few days ago!  It warms my Sheltie heart!

Do you believe that Mom had the NERVE to take a photo of me afterwards when I was still  in the “Land of Psychedelic Shelties?” She did the SAME thing last year! I think she started some sort of sick new tradition at my expense!  Well, I wouldn’t let her put up the original photo, my nose was all swollen and my eyes didn’t have their normal Sheltie sparkle. I made Mom touch up the photo in Dreamscope to better depict how I TRULY was feeling! Here you go!

Now this isn’t so bad!

The Vet and Vet Tech said I was a super good boy and took everything in stride! They said I am “sweet!!” Well, OF COURSE I am!! “Dr.Smiley”, my usual Vet, didn’t do the dental because he doesn’t clean teeth, one of his equally “smiley” associates did, and she was WONDERFUL!! They all took such good care of me!  I am completely back to my barking self! Thank you all for your kind words to Mom while she was a nervous wreck! You are all “sweet” too!!

Barks and licks and love,

Dakota

When a House is NOT a “HOME”

Trying to concentrate on some things I have to get done, but I am having a hard time doing so. It’s quiet here, WAY too quiet!

Dakota’s Dad dropped him off at the Vet this morning to get his teeth cleaned. He has had the procedure before, his blood work was 100% normal,  but I still worry.

I thought I would use the quiet time here to get some work done, but I can’t. I can’t concentrate. Nothing feels right.

Dakota Lifestyle Nutrish looking at camera

I look to my side while typing at the computer  and the giant ball of fur that is usually sleeping peacefully next to me isn’t here.

I hear doors open in our hallway that “Security Dog Dakota” would be on top off,  but  there is no barking.

I get up to get something to eat and I have no one stalking me to see what I am eating.

Sure, our cat, Cody, is somewhere in our home sleeping. As is often the case with cats, he hasn’t a care in the world that his brother isn’t home.

I guess I am less cat-like than I originally thought. Until that smiling bundle of fur comes through our door later today, our house just won’t feel like a HOME.

Hurry home Dakota!

Your Mama (and Dad), and yes, even Cody too,

ARE MISSING YOU!!!!!

xoxoxo

UPDATE! Vet called at around 1pm. Said they took Dakota earlier than they expected to. All went well!!! Said he has been out of anesthesia for some time and will be ready to go around dinnertime!  Vet said his teeth cleaned up great!!!! Excited to see my crazy boy!!!  (Remind me I said that tomorrow when he is on my nerves again lol)

My Dog Reacts to #SqueakNSnap

Hi and Happy Friday all!

A few weeks ago our friends over at 15 and Meowing had a pawesome giveaway and we won!!! The main prize was the   SqueakNSnap   , which I had heard about and desperately wanted to try!

What is SqueakNSnap?

The concept is genius, and using the SqueakNSnap is a breeze! It is super easy to use. Most of us who photograph children and pets know just how hard it can be to get them to look at the camera. SqueakNSnap is a cute little bear, with a button hidden in his belly, that when you plug the end of the cord that comes with it into your iPhone or Android phone headset jack or hole (with the camera app OPEN), each time you squeeze the bear’s belly, it makes a squeaky (hence the name) sound. The “squeaky” sound is nearly guaranteed to capture your child or your pet’s attention. With each “squeak” the camera “SNAPS!!” a photo!! Brilliant!! No more struggling to get the attention of your child or pet, they will automatically look in the direction of the camera, (most of the time!)

The only glitch that I thought of is, if you have an iPhone that came out BEFORE the new 7, the SqueakNSnap will work. Apple has removed the headphone jack from the new iPhones, but I have a feeling that SqueakNSnap will come up with something to compensate for that.

Here is a collage that depicts Dakota’s from when he first heard the “squeak” til when he came up close.

It worked super well with Dakota, Cody, not as much.  (I think dogs are just more tuned into that “squeaky” sound).

I will use the SqueakNSnap until I get the new iPhone. One thing I learned is your first instinct is to keep squeezing the bear’s belly to get the attention of your pet, but each time you squeeze, the button in the bear’s belly, the SqueakNSnap  takes a photo. (I had about 20 of the same photo until I realized that, because stupid me was too lazy to read the directions FIRST before trying it.)

Dakota is my more reluctant “model” and it worked like a champ to get his attention, I definitely recommend SqeakNSnap if you have a hard to photograph pet or child.

I would like to thank Ellen again for ALL of the fantastic prizes we won, you can see the rest of them, (and Cody somersaulting into his bed……..here!)

Happy First Day of Fall!!!!

Hi all! It’s Dakota and Mom and I could not be happier that today at 10:21 AM EST Fall officially arrived!!!!

This past summer was one of our hottest here in Michigan and neither Mom, nor myself are big fans of the heat. Who WOULD be wearing a luxurious fur coat like mine?

dakota-fall-1

The photos in this post obviously are older. Our leaves haven’t changed into their magical, vibrant splendor yet, but I month from now they will be at peak!

Mom and I can’t wait to take walks around the neighborhood and in parks, enjoying the splendor that will be all around us.

Cooler temps, football, cozy nights, ahhhhhh we LOVE FALL!!!

dakota-fall-2

Do you love Fall as much as Mom and I do? What is your favorite thing about Fall? What is YOUR favorite season?

Barks and licks and love,

Dakota
