Friendship Day 2013

Hi every furry and happy Sunday! Did you know that today is FRIENDSHIP DAY? Yeppers! It most certainly is. I’m one Sheltie who is in-the-know and when I tell ya something, well, you had better believe it!

I bet that now you are asking, “What IS Friendship Day?” I’m glad you asked! I’m here to give ya a bark out and tell ya!

From Days Of The Year:

Friendship day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919. It was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards, but by 1940 the market had dried up, and eventually it died out completely. However, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations (believe it or not!), and in April 2011 the United Nations officially recognised 30th July as International Friendship Day; although most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August!

According to the Friendship Day declaration, we are invited to “observe this day in an appropriate manner, in accordance with the culture and other appropriate circumstances or customs of their local, national and regional communities, including through education and public awareness-raising activities”.

So…now you KNOW!

I know that you also know that friends can come in many different shapes, sizes, breeds, species, etc.  I learned that at an extremely young age you know, and I am glad that I did! My BEST friend in the entire world is my kitty brother, Cody. Many people are under the mistaken belief that cats and dogs CANNOT be friends! Pffft! That couldn’t be further from the truth! Just like in everyday life, if you look past obvious differences you can find SOMETHING about EVERYBODY to like and “liking” someone is the key in the foundation of forming a life-long friendship!! I am glad that I did because Cody is the BEST FRIEND EVER!  We are partners in crime, we tag-team my Dad for food, we handle the morning wake-up call together, we even sometimes go to the VET together!

Dakota and Cody Brotherly Love

I am blessed to have many friends and one that I am especially proud to know was actually Cody’s friend first. That special friend ALSO just happens to be a CAT and his name is Brian! He is from the blog Brian’s Home and is one wise kitty!

This is my most favorite photo of Brian. Used without permission from his blog! Be sure to visit his blog by clicking on the photo!

Brian lives with SIX kitty sisters, and he is one GREAT brother! Brian’s motto is “Adopt cats, we deserve it!”  Finding homes for kitties that don’t have one is one of Brian’s MANY special callings! He also has a kind word to say about EVERY BODY and spreads love and good cheer wherever he goes!

An example of that good cheer is that Brian nominated ME a WOOFIE to be showcased on our friend Molly’s blog one day in the future! Molly often features blogging animals on Sundays, and Brian suggested to Molly that I make an appearance! I was actually barkless when I heard the news! I was so shocked! But guess who is being featured on Molly’s blog today? BRIAN!!

Here is more some info about Molly from her blog:

Molly (full title: Molly The Wally) dog genius and Pawlitzer Prize-winning author. I am the illegitimate love-pup of ‘Originality and ‘Creativity with a hint of mockery, derision and cynicism. Both parents have disowned me!

Seriously parentage dubious, mother King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, father Unknown! Born in puppy farm and sold in a public house before being rescued by my human at 17 weeks old…cue sympathy vote. Born with abnormally long auricles which flap when running and I can virtually be seen taking off on windy days. Other features include button nose, large sorrowful eyes, rather long proboscis and teeth to die for.
Aren’t I one LUCKY Sheltie? First, I get to live with my Mom and Dad where I am blessed to have an amazing kitty brother for a best friend. Then, I get to meet some of HIS friends, Brian and Molly.
I am also lucky that I have ALL OF YOU as my special friends! You come to visit me, you give me bark-outs and many of you share stories about YOUR lives on YOUR blogs!
I cherish each and every one of you and think you are the BEST FRIENDS EVER!
How lucky can ONE Sheltie get?
Tell me, who is YOUR best friend?
Barks and licks and love,

Will you help my kitty brother? Vote for AmazeCats Next Top Cat!

Hi everyone! It’s Dakota, and today I am gonna do something super brotherly (but don’t you dare tell that I did this!) You see, my brother, Cody is participating in a contest, and since he is NOWHERE near as adorable as I am, (BOL!), he NEEDS VOTES!

Look at this face:

cody please vote

Pretty pitiful isn’t it? Can’t SOMEONE teach this guy how to SMILE?  He has an expression like “Uh, duh…did you call me?” BOL!

The contest is being held by AmazeCats

Who is AmazeCats? Glad you asked! AmazeCats makes:

Famous Cats of the Internet Playing Cards

The famous cats of the internet that we all know and love are coming together to help cats in need. Our feline friends have joined forces to bring you a cool deck of playing cards featuring their adorable photos on each card. You can play cards, hang out with your favorite internet cats and donate to a great cat charity all at the same time. How neat is that?

Every purchase is a donation! All of the proceeds from this deck will be donated to Stray Cat Alliance, a great non-profit organization aimed specifically at caring for and finding homes for stray cats.

Vote for AmazeCats Next Top Cat

Because there are many special needs cats with way more votes than my brother, (and in all honesty they are more deserving, I am not kidding when I say that, I mean that with all of my heart) he won’t win the contest.  That’s ok! He just wants to finish in the Top 32!
Here is the video that my Mom submitted for Cody (the intro was done by AmazeCats)

Isn’t that the most EMBARRASSING THING EVER?

Do you feel sorry enough to vote for my slightly rotund feline family member?

If so, you can vote once a day UNTIL MARCH 29th! Cody has a few blogging buddies who are also in the contest and they would love to make it into the top 32 as well! The cool thing is you can VOTE FOR MULTIPLE CATS IN ONE DAY! So when you vote for Cody you can vote for them too!

Sorry to ruin your day with a kitty on the blog, but sometimes with family you just gotta do what you gotta do!

Thanks for your support!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Mischief Monday-Flat as a Pancake!

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!

My brother Cody and I have had discussions about being left when Mom goes to the BlogPaws 2012 conference. We didn’t like that kitties and doggies from all over the country (including my buddy Snoopy!!!) get to go to this spectacular conference and we can’t go!

What in the name of a bag o’ bones is wrong with THAT picture?

Cody and I  are the ones that work  til the wee (and I don’t mean peeing!) hours of the morning on our blogs!  All Mom does is type the info that we give her, she makes that appear as if it’s a big deal cause she likes to moan and groan about  all that she does,  but Cody and I know differently!

We didn’t earn the right to go on this trip?

Without Cody and I Mom would have  no blogs! If Mom had no blogs, she wouldn’t be going on a  trip to  BlogPaws which is only the best blogging conference on the Planet!

Somebody needs to be barked at… big time!

Cody and I  decided to take matters into our own paws and take a look at what we did!

We had ourselves turned into  PANCAKE PETS!!

Also known as Flat Pets!

Don’t we look realistic?

We’re pretty smart huh?

Now we can go to BlogPaws with Mom

and REALLY stir up some mischief!!!!

Ohhhh…we’re gonna have FUN!!!

Do YOU wanna stir up some mischief?

Ohhhh I know you wanna!

Visit Pancake Pets right here and you can go anywhere that your pawrents go!

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go and pack! I have a lot of toys, treats and Nutrish

to fit into my bag!

I  have eaten Nutrish for all of my five years,  and my Mom won’t let me go to BlogPaws? When there is Nutrish around, this Sheltie will NOT be denied!

This bag is wrinkled because I EAT this food and have been for the past FIVE years!

(By the way, Nutrish  is  a Silver Sponsor at BlogPaws…click on  Sponsors  to see the entire list of TONS of BlogPaws Sponsors! )

 Let the mischief begin!!

Watch out Salt Lake City, here we come!!!

Winner of “The Dog That Talked to God” A Novel by Jim Kraus

Hi Everyone!  It’s Dakota!!

BOL!! I fooled you! That’s not really me! That’s an Avatar of me that my friend’s  Mom made!! As you know, I love the kitties since I have a kitty brother named Cody. Well, Oui Oui  is a kitty and Oui Oui just happens to have  a blog called Twinkletoe Tails (click Oui Oui’s photo to visit it!)

Oui Oui’s Mom knows that my Mom is pretty inept to say the least, so she was kind enough to make an avatar of me for my Mom! Isn’t it cool? She also wrote a blog post about how to make an avatar which you can read by clicking herethe title mentions how to make a KITTY avatar, don’t let that throw you, you can make it for woofies too!

Now, on to some more great news!  Mom recently read and reviewed the book,  The Dog That Talked To God By Jim Kraus and we had a give-away!

Mom is a little sad because this book was simply MARVELOUS and she can’t believe that such a small number of people read the review and entered. That is a shame. The book is superb and deserves to be seen!

It blows Mom’s mind that TONS of people enter to win bones, but books? Not-so-much. That’s sad, terribly sad indeed, but I digress, at least ONE  lucky person entered the contest and won the book! (Thanks to my other loyal readers who entered, we apologize that you didn’t win, but there will be other give-aways for sure!)

The winner is:

Mom will email you for your name and address

so that she may mail you the book.

if Mom does not hear from you

within  48 HOURS after she emails you,

the second place person will win the book

Barks and licks and love, Dakota
