Hi my friends it’s Dakota! I just love Fall! Fall is a beautiful time of year, isn’t it? The colors of the leaves match my luxurious coat, there is a chill in the air….
there is Halloween, football, baseball….”WAIT, WHAT??!! Baseball?” Yep my friends, BASEBALL! There was baseball in October! Imagine that!! My furry friends, my home was turned upside down this Fall, since the first week of October, all because of BASEBALL!!! “The Boys of Summer” took over OUR FALL!!!
Why? Well, my Mom is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and her beloved Cleveland Indians were in the playoffs this year, and they made it all the way to the World Series!! For the one or two of you who live in the U.S. that don’t know, the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs, better known as the “underdogs” (whoever dreamed up THAT term is beyond me! Dogs aren’t beneath or “under” anything other than maybe resting under a table or something like that…but I digress….), were both battling with their hearts and souls because the Cubs hadn’t been to the World Series in over 100 years, and Mom’s Indians hadn’t WON a World Series since 1948. (Prior to 2016 the Cleveland Indians were in the World Series in ’95 and ’97 and lost both times). Mom was confident that the THIRD time would be “the charm”, or so she thought….
Let me tell you pals, it was HARD living in my house! My kitty brother didn’t feel the stress like I did because Mom kept saying that since we live in the Detroit area, and he is a feline, (and kisses up to Daddy), that he is a Detroit Tigers fan. So, Mom decided I was the logical choice to be HER “baseball buddy!”
What does that mean? It meant that I had to sit there and take part in some of my Mom’s “rituals” or should we say “superstitions?” Well, for those of you who love baseball like my Mom, you know that baseball players are some of the most superstitious in sports. They have their favorite “walk-on” songs, (songs that play when they come up to bat), they have their favorite bats, favorite necklaces, etc. They even eat food that they feel is LUCKY. Food that will bring them good luck for a game!
food of choice superstition, was that if she ate the same snack that she had eaten when the Indians won a game, if she ate it again, the winning streak would continue. During the World Series Mom’s food of choice was popcorn. Bowls (or I should say TROUGHS of it!!!) Mom makes popcorn with olive oil and parmesan cheese. I usually have a tiny bit with her, but then, I move on to MY food of choice, my Nutrish!!!
My “food of choice” is no superstition, it is what I eat EVERY DAY and is what I have eaten since 2008! Hey! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!”
My fave is:

It is tasty and I LOVE IT!!!!!! So friends, back to my story. All was right in my world while the Indians were winning….Mom had her popcorn and I had my Nutrish. This “ritual” was great! Every time Mom had her snack, I got extra Nutrish! I hit the Mother Lode! I wasn’t just having my Nutrish at meal times like I usually do, I was having my favorite food for snacks too! I kept thinking, “Go Indians!!”
But then, things took a turn for the worse. The Indians started losing, Mom was getting crabby, and there were TONS of HBO words being thrown around my house! Words not fit for ANY Sheltie to hear.
Then, the unthinkable happened. THE INDIANS LOST BY A SCORE OF 8-7, in the SEVENTH GAME OF THE WORLD SERIES, in the 10th inning!!!
The smile quickly left my face. Mom was crying, I was sad for Mom, but even sadder for myself. My extra servings of Nutrish would stop….but……I quickly realized, “Hey! I eat Nutrish EVERY day! That won’t change! I can be happy and let Mom be sad by herself!! Seasons change, baseball teams lose championships and rip my Mom’s heart out, but all is right in MY world because even though my extra snacks will end, I will continue to eat Nutrish at my meal times TWICE A DAY, EVERY DAY!!” I am proud that Nutrish has:
No poultry by-product meal, fillers, wheat or wheat gluten

Dakota and I hope that if you haven’t made the “switch to Nutrish” that you will make TODAY the day that you make that switch!!
(Oh and while Mom is still grieving over the Indians loss, we would like to Congratulate the Cubs and their fans on their epic accomplishment……(we think!)
Follow Nutrish !
I didn’t blog about it this year for a host of reasons, (the main one is I have had an awful chest cold the past two weeks that is FINALLY leaving!), but those that are on Facebook know that Thursday, October 20th was my birthday, (“My” meaning the Mom).
I wanted to share the adorable cards that I received, (I apologize, I was going to list them one by one but I am way too lazy to do that!)
Please know how much I appreciate all of the greetings that I received via email and Facebook, and if I accidentally missed anyone, it was not intentional!!
Thank you so much!!!
Each and every one of you made me smile on a year that I just wasn’t much into smiling, and I DEEPLY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!!! THANK YOU AND I SEND MUCH LOVE!!!
Oh my!!!!! With my being sick since last Thursday, I NEARLY FORGOT that today is Dakota’s NINTH GOTCHA DAY! I was sitting here doing work, I looked to my side and saw my boy who “guards” me while I work. Because I don’t have time to come up with something new, I went through some old posts and found this one that I have edited with some different photos, some of the text originally appeared in 2013.
HAPPY, HAPPY GOTCHA DAY DAKOTA!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!
TODAY IS DAKOTA’S 9TH GOTCHA DAY!!!
Dakota was the answer to my childhood dream
of having my own Sheltie
When I was 5, I met a Sheltie
that lived across the street who was named “Dandy”
that was it, I was hooked.
I used to only play with the kids that lived in that house
because of their Sheltie!!
At the time, I was obsessed with Lassie
and in my 5-year old mind
the Sheltie that I had fallen in love with,
was a mini “Lassie”
I later learned that Shelties
aren’t related to Collies at all
but are their own marvelous breed!
HAPPY HAPPY GOTCHA DAY
TO OUR PRECIOUS DAKOTA!!
DADDY, CODY AND I LOVE YOU
“ALWAYS AND ALWAYS”
This video was not made by me
but it features one of my favorite Phil Collins songs
and celebrates one of the most wonderful,
sensitive, silly, loving and crazy breeds
Trying to concentrate on some things I have to get done, but I am having a hard time doing so. It’s quiet here, WAY too quiet!
Dakota’s Dad dropped him off at the Vet this morning to get his teeth cleaned. He has had the procedure before, his blood work was 100% normal, but I still worry.
I thought I would use the quiet time here to get some work done, but I can’t. I can’t concentrate. Nothing feels right.
I look to my side while typing at the computer and the giant ball of fur that is usually sleeping peacefully next to me isn’t here.
I hear doors open in our hallway that “Security Dog Dakota” would be on top off, but there is no barking.
I get up to get something to eat and I have no one stalking me to see what I am eating.
Sure, our cat, Cody, is somewhere in our home sleeping. As is often the case with cats, he hasn’t a care in the world that his brother isn’t home.
I guess I am less cat-like than I originally thought. Until that smiling bundle of fur comes through our door later today, our house just won’t feel like a HOME.
Hurry home Dakota!
Your Mama (and Dad), and yes, even Cody too,
ARE MISSING YOU!!!!!
UPDATE! Vet called at around 1pm. Said they took Dakota earlier than they expected to. All went well!!! Said he has been out of anesthesia for some time and will be ready to go around dinnertime! Vet said his teeth cleaned up great!!!! Excited to see my crazy boy!!! (Remind me I said that tomorrow when he is on my nerves again lol)
Hi my furiends! I haven’t been around much lately for a bunch of reasons….one of the most important, was my Aunt Nancy came to visit last week!! I hadn’t seen her in over a year, I was completely beside myself with joy!!
Do you have a special person in YOUR family who you don’t get to see often, but you just love to pieces?
Barks and licks and love,
