Charles Schulz,  Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang have been a part of my life since I was a little girl of approximately 8 years old. As a child, I often watched my cartoonist father draw pictures of Snoopy for me, and I would later sit and labor away for hours trying to replicate them.  I always had a love of drawing, and inherited some of my father’s talent,  and I was convinced that my drawings of Charlie Brown and Snoopy were good enough to enable me to become Charles Schulz’s assistant. At the tender age of 8, I not only “Dreamed Big”,  I was pretty bold as well!I sat and wrote a letter to Charles Schulz and enclosed my drawings, telling him that once he viewed my work, he would love it so much that  he would HAVE to hire me! I will never forget the day that I received a reply!! Charles Schulz had taken the time to write to ME! He told me my artwork was wonderful, and that if I practiced hard, that maybe one day when I grew up, I could be his assistant!

Peanuts Movie Snoopy and Woodstock

The Peanuts comic strip and characters have evolved into a part of Americana, pop-culture history.   Charlie Brown and his beloved pal, Snoopy, the Beagle who has, since the very beginning, been catapulted into one of the most recognized dogs in the world, thanks to the thousands of comic strips, TV specials, and countless memorabilia devoted to him  over the years.  For a number of years my older sister had a tradition where on every birthday I received a new Charlie Brown sweatshirt. The sweatshirts were brightly colored and each featured Charlie Brown (and often Snoopy), with one of Charlie Brown’s trademark quotes written on the front. I loved those sweatshirts. They were my “uniform” for quite a long time.

Now, Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Entertainment are once again bringing the iconic characters of Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang to life in the 3D animated film, The Peanuts Movie, coming to theaters nationwide, November 6th 2015.

The family friendly film, directed by, Steve Martino and produced by, Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, Paul Feig and Miachel J. Travers, centers around everyone’s favorite underdog, Charlie Brown and his best pal, Snoopy.  This time we find our favorite underdog, Charlie Brown, embarking on an epic and heroic quest, while loveable Snoopy takes to the skies to pursue his arch- nemesis, the Red Baron, with an outcome that will prove that every underdog has his day.

PEANUTS

Did you know Snoopy, was actually inspired by Schulz’s own childhood dog, Spike, who was not a Beagle at all but actually a cross between a Pointer and a Hound.

PEANUTS

It  comes as no surprise that dog lovers relate so deeply to the bond between Snoopy and his best friend, Charlie Brown. Now a whole new generation will get to enjoy the characters and all the fun and somewhere another bold 8-year-old little girl (or boy), will be encouraged to “DREAM BIG!!” Be sure to check out, The Peanuts Movie, in 3D opening November, 6th in a theater near you!!!

Fun Film Friday!!! It’s Time For POPCORN!!!

Hi and Happy Friday all!

Dakota is at the vet as you are reading this. Today he is having his first dental cleaning, and to say I am nervous about him being under anesthesia, is an understatement!!!  We adore our vet and have complete faith in him,  I am just a nervous Sheltie Mom! Paws crossed that all goes well!!

In an effort to add some levity to the day, I wanted to share a silly video that I shot of Dakota this past week. If you have read the blog in the course of the last year you will remember that I have mentioned Dakota’s love for popcorn in the past.

Dakota loves nothing more than sharing some with me (don’t worry, I don’t give him much!), and being the brilliant Sheltie that he is, he KNOWS when you are talking about POPCORN, even if you SPELL IT! He also knows what the container looks like that I keep it in and will begin losing his mind whenever he sees it!

Being the HORRIBLE doggy Mom that I am, I often like to egg Dakota on, (he’s just sooo easy to get worked up!), and that is just what I was doing the other night.

Enjoy this silly video and please excuse my “singing!!” Dakota had actually “sung” with me the day before, and I was trying to get him to do it again, but I wasn’t horribly successful!

Once Dakota had his fill of my annoying him….he “exits stage left!!!!!”

Have a great weekend!

“The waiting is the hardest part”

You probably don’t realize this because I walk around with a perpetual smile on my face, but I am actually a rather philosophical Sheltie. I have been known to think a few deep thoughts now and again. I’m not just a 4-legged ball of handsome fluff you know!

dakota gorgeous july 2013

It seems lately that there has been an awful lot of waiting going on at my house.

Mom has been even more testy than usual lately (and believe me that’s hard to top!) I frequently hear her  talking about various things she is waiting for. Many of them are GOOD things, so I don’t understand the barking of unprintable words that often accompany her comments.

The only thing that I can think of is one of the things that she is waiting for involves having the ability to buy ME more bones! Well, when I heard that, it made perfect sense! OF COURSE she is upset if something hasn’t arrived because that means I will be without BONES! It’s ALL ABOUT ME!!  Must I go downstairs and give that pesky mail person a good “barking to?” NO BONES!!?? That makes ME want to spew a few evil bark outs myself!

I got to thinking though, I think I do a lot more waiting than my Mom does, just look at this list of things that I have to wait for!

Waiting for Dad to wake up and feed me (I think sleeping past 4am is completely unnecessary, don’t you?)

Waiting for unwelcome leaves, wind, dogs, cats, squirrels, rabbits, birds (you get the idea), to cross my yard so that I may exercise my incredible security ability!

dakota August 16 2011 night he was sick with cody

Waiting for my kitty brother to STOP taking naps and PLAY WITH ME ALREADY!

On the same subject, waiting for my kitty brother to THROW back my ball when I throw it to HIM!

Waiting for treats (I think treats should be dispensed hourly!)

Waiting for D-I-N-N-E-R!!  (that should NEVER be waited for!)

Dakota posing on couch full body adorable

Waiting for Mom to get off of the computer and come out and watch TV in the living room so that I may sit with her and have her give me kisses. Sometimes it seems as if she will NEVER get off of the computer!

Waiting for some of you to find me again!! I am thrilled that most of you have re-subscribed but I know that many of you are wandering around lost and can’t find your way! Well, THIS should help!

I guess that sometimes waiting isn’t really a BAD thing.  Some of the benefits of waiting are:

Waiting makes you appreciate what you are waiting for that much more when it finally DOES arrive. Doesn’t your dinner taste that much better when you have been anxiously waiting for it?

Waiting makes you stronger you think you are gonna die if you don’t get what you want when you want it, but you really won’t die! You will live to bark another day!

It teaches you patience I hear that is a virtue, whatever a virtue is.

It builds your character well that’s a good thing! There are no easy fixes and you know what they say, “Good things come to those who wait!”

Wasn’t that super philosophical of me to put a pawsitive spin  on the entire subject of waiting, when in reality I read the above and I just want to say “Yadda, Yadda, Yadda and blah, blah, blah!!” We all  know that the above IS true, we just don’t realize it at the time.

So tell me, what are some things that YOU have to wait for that YOU wish would speed up? I’m all EARS! Give me a bark-out below!

Barks and licks and love,

Dakota
