Happy Halloween!!!

Pet Product: Molly Mutt Car Seat Cover

Hi everyone it’s Dakota! Back in September Mom and I were reading a blog that we follow regularly (My Rotten Dogs) and they were having a give-away for a Molly Mutt Car Seat Cover.

My Dad had just leased a new Honda Accord and was already getting frantic about having me ride in it too soon. Why? Because Shelties are known to have an abundance of fur and said-fur gets all over Dad’s back seat. Mom and I were quite familiar with Molly Mutt because we had won a bed some time ago,  and we both decided that since their products are so well made, we wanted to enter this give-away and hopefully surprise my OCD Dad by winning the Car Seat Cover.

Well, I won and I am doing Sheltie Spins of joy that I did!

The Molly Mutt Car Seat Covers are super versatile and stylish! They can be used as traditional car seat covers, cargo covers or a hammock cover. Before I show you my photos (because of course I never use ANY product in a traditional way), I want to show you a photo from the Molly Mutt website that shows the cover being used three different ways. You will notice in the photo below that the cover is put in the car in a neat and tidy manner, (not like the way that my Mom put ours in for our Dad!)

The Molly Mutt car seat cover not only protects your back seat or cargo area, it also adds an extra bit of style.

  • fits all vehicles with headrests
  • covers the back seat or cargo area
  • adjustable straps for easy on/off
  • seat belt slots so you can buckle up
  • seat anchors & non-skid backing keep the cover in place

dimensions: 56″ x 56″

you can also add embroidery!

When I won, Mom and I selected the same cover that is featured in the photo above. It is called “Rocketman” (and you are welcome for the earworm I just gave you with Elton John buzzing in your head!)  When you see my photos below you will notice that Mom did NOT use the adjustable straps or the seat belt slots. Why? Because Dad’s wants/needs for the use of HIS cover is different from most. The reason for that is because I am only a 25 lb Sheltie, I am NOT a giant dog who takes up the entire back seat both in length OR height! Dad’s main concern for his car is that the seat that I plop my butt on (and that passengers in his car plop THEIR butt on), is covered, AND, because I tend to also like to sit ON THE FLOOR, Dad wanted part of the FLOOR covered as well. (That is because my fur sticks to the carpeting in the car like velcro!)

Leave it to us to ALWAYS add a new spin on ways to use products! It might not be the textbook “right” way but it WORKS for us and FULFILLS OUR NEEDS!

Now that we have a Molly Mutt Car Seat Cover my fur doesn’t shed on the seat or the floor which makes Dad happy and in turn makes Mom and I happy because we don’t have to listen to him yapping about not wanting to have me ride  in his new car! (The nerve of him!)

Thanks Molly Mutt and our furiends at My Rotten Dogs! The car seat cover functions the way that WE need it to function and we couldn’t be happier!

Woofies go and visit Molly Mutt and get one for yourself too!

Barks and licks and love,

Dakota

In full disclosure:we were not compensated for writing about the Molly Mutt Car Seat Cover. We chose to feature it on our blog as a thank you for having won it, which in our world is the proper thing to do when one wins a prize from a blog. That being said, we love our cover and if we had done a traditional review we would have featured more photos and more feedback from us, but this is a product “feature” NOT one of our traditional reviews.

Best & Worst Pets for Apartment Living

FTC Disclosure:ForRent.com has sponsored and provided the content for this post.

Over time, dogs are reportedly more stinky than cats by a 2 to 1 ratio. And yet, the age-old personality question persists: Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Beyond personality, we wanted to look at the many other considerations of pet ownership that are important for apartment living. How much space does your pet need? How much care and walking will it require? Is it stinky? How much does it poop?

We set out to find statistics and data to answer these questions so you can find the best pet to suit your apartment life. Here’s what we found:

Educating people on the best pets for smaller spaces will hopefully reduce the number of pets turned over to shelters because owners were not well informed.

Happy Birthday to my Mama!!

Happy 10th Gotcha Day Dakota!!

To my precious “Sheltie-Boy”,

It is so hard to believe that ten years ago today you joined our family. The years have flown by. There are so many moments that I wish I could have captured and treasured longer, but thankfully through the blog and photos, many of them have been preserved.

Dakota there are times you drove me insane when you were under two years old. You Chewed furniture, chewed door panels, destroyed toys, you chewed up my brand new cell phone, and when I had to house-train you  I thought I would never make it through!  But I did, and so did you!

You have grown into the most loving, sensitive, hilariously funny, compassionate and brilliant dog that I could have ever hoped for.

When my Angel Bobo passed and we adopted Cody first, while Cody helped to heal my aching heart, and while I adore Cody, it is YOU dear boy who is more like my Angel Bobo. I didn’t realize that til this year. Angel Bobo would kiss me if I cried, you do the same. Angel Bobo would never leave my side, you do the same. In the past year it seems that our bond has grown even deeper. You show a love and sensitivity for me and all of my moods that I would never have thought to be possible. Your beautiful jelly bean eyes speak volumes. You have matured into my “heart-dog.”

I want to thank you dear boy for the countless doggy kisses that you give me EVERY DAY, for the laughs, yes, even when you are on one of your crazy Sheltie barking jags, (and I wish you would stop), you ALWAYS make me smile. Thank you dearest Dakota for all you have contributed to our family in the past ten years, thank you  for loving me even when I am not feeling lovable. Thank you  for sharing your life with us. I pray we have many more years together.

Happy, Happy 10th Gotcha Day my precious “Dakota Boda”, my “heart-dog.” You are the Sheltie I waited my entire life for. I love you more than you could ever imagine…..today, tomorrow and forever………”Mom”

Dog Book for Children:”Too Licky” (Two Sisters’ Journey to Rescue the “Just-Right” Dog) by Gigi Giles & Ryan Giles, Illustrated by Cynthia Inks and a GIVE-AWAY!

In honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month we are happy to present to you a darling children’s book:

I always feel a little uncomfortable presenting anything rescue oriented because the first question/comment I always think I will hear is: “What? You are featuring this and Dakota wasn’t adopted?” That’s right, no, Dakota was not adopted. Cody was. When Dakota joined our family he was referred to us by one of my “bonus daughters”. And…ready for this? Said “bonus daughter” not only manages a local rescue here in the suburbs of Detroit, but she has given homes to dogs and cats from her shelter that most would consider to be “un-adoptable.”

The bottom line to me is ALL dogs deserve a “furever home” and NO BREED should be discriminated against.

What is “Too Licky?”

“Too Licky” is a children’s book about finding the ‘just right’ rescue dog.

Gigi Giles and Ryan Giles are the authors of the precious and important book: “Too Licky.” Back in April they launched a SUCCESSFUL kickstarter campaign to fund the creation of “Too Licky.”

Gigi and Ryan were born in Los Angeles and when their parents announced they were moving to Jacksonville, Florida, the “bargain” was to get a dog.

Gigi and Ryan Giles searched high and low to find the “right” dog. After months and months of searching they found her, the “just right” rescue dog – Sugar.

The first two years of her life are unknown. The only knowns are that Sugar and her three puppies were found as strays, were taken to a rural animal shelter, fostered by a volunteer and all four adopted into loving homes.

Sugar’s story isn’t over yet. It’s more like the bumper sticker, “who rescued who?”

Proceeds from each book sale go to help other rescue dogs like Sugar find their forever home.

Please join Gigi and Ryan in helping dogs like Sugar by purchasing a book, adopting a rescue or, both!

This darling book which was inspired by the book “Too Purpley!”  “Too Licky” features beautiful illustrations by Cynthia Inks (what an appropriate last name for an illustrator, right?) and those illustrations are EXQUISITE. The illustrations are vibrant, energetic and to me are reminiscent of artwork from the 70s (Pop art colors, etc), they are DELIGHTFUL! Each of the 21 illustrations are REAL DOGS from the rescue dog community, and each of those dogs  has a “story” that is shared in the back of the book. Cynthia is  a Florida native, (who also helped Gigi and Ryan find Sugar). There are also  forewords by well-known bully breed advocates and celebrity dog trainers. The book  also features tips for families on how to find their own “just right” rescue.

Huge kudos to Gigi and Ryan Giles for writing this darling book, sharing the proceeds and for giving “Sugar” such a special home! May you have many, many years of happiness together!!
