Those that know my Mom and Dad well know they are BIG baseball and football fans. Dad is a Detroit Tigers fan (and so is Cody since he is a feline), but Mom and I are true to Mom’s original team, The Cleveland Indians. (Mom lived in Cleveland for 35 years and was at the World Series twice when the Indians were there and she was at a number of playoff games. The photo below is when Mom was at the 1995 World Series, she is on the right). Why am I an Indians fan? Because I am one of the BIGGEST “Mama’s Boy” Shelties known to man, THAT’S why!! (and because I know who to kiss up to for extra treats!)

My Mom is on the right, this was from the World Series in 1995

Our post is PERFECTLY APPROPRIATE FOR THE WORD “VICTORIOUS!!” READ ON AND YOU WILL SEE WHY:

Well, this week the Cleveland Indians, (affectionately known as “The Tribe” had TWO HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENTS. The first is The Cleveland Indians won 22 CONSECUTIVE GAMES, THE SECOND LONGEST STREAK IN HISTORY AND IT WAS THE LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN AMERICAN LEAGUE HISTORY!!

FACTS FROM CBS SPORTS:

1. It’s the second longest winning streak in history.

Some say it’s the longest winning streak. But, according to MLB, this is the second-longest winning streak ever.

2. Not many of the 22 wins were close.

More than half the 22 wins were decided by at least four runs. Pretty incredible.

3. Their Pythagorean record was 21-1.

Pythagorean record is a fancy term for expected record based on run differential. That plus-105 run differential equals an expected 21-1 record in those 22 games thanks to all those big blowout wins. There is always going to be some element of luck to a 22-game winning streak, but make no mistake, the Indians straight up dominated for 22 games.

4. The Indians had just one walk-off win.

5. The Indians trailed for only eight innings.

6. They swept two doubleheaders.

7. Cleveland won 15 games in 14 days.

8. The Indians had long home and road winning streaks simultaneously.

9. The fans gave the team a big hand after the streak ended.

To read the rest of these amazing stats visit CBS SPORTS (they listed 22 stats in honor of the Indians historic 22 game winning streak.)

THE SECOND HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT?

THE CLEVELAND INDIANS HAVE CLINCHED

THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE AL  CENTRAL TITLE

FROM CBS SPORTS:

What was once a formality is now official: The Cleveland Indians are the 2017 AL Central champions. Saturday’s win over the Royals (CLE 8, KC 4) combined with the Twins losing to the Blue Jays (TOR 7, MIN 2) clinched Cleveland’s second straight division title.

This is the first time the Indians have won back-to-back division titles since winning five straight from 1995-99. Cleveland clinched a postseason berth earlier this week, so their ticket to the playoffs was already punched.

Mom and I are hopeful that the Cleveland Indians will once again make it to the World Series (they lost to the Chicago Cubs in 2016) and that this time, for the FIRST TIME since 1948, they will WIN!! We have our paws crossed!! “GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRIBE!!!”

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit to Aid Hurricane Harvey Relief

Shelter preparing for arrival of Houston adoptable animals

donating 50% of all adoption fees to Houston shelters

Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) will donate 50% of all adoption fees to local Houston animal rescue groups through the month of September to aid animal shelters devastated by the impact of Hurricane Harvey. The shelter is also making room for adoptable animals from the impacted areas, expected to arrive within the month.

FAMD has agreed to be one of the Michigan animal shelters finding homes for adoptable Houston animals. These animals were in Houston shelters and ready for adoption before the storm hit, and are being moved to make room to reunite lost pets with their owners. Said Elaine Greene, executive director of FAMD, “With so many animals in need of homes even before the storm hit, it’s especially urgent now to make room for all the pets in Houston that were lost in the shuffle.”

Through the month of September, FAMD will donate half of each adoption fee to one of several Houston-area shelters. Adopters will choose from a list of humane groups, including the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, one of the shelters coordinating funds and donation distribution to those affected by the hurricane. This offer includes all cats and dogs adopted from FAMD at the “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo” event at the Detroit Zoo on September 15 and 16. FAMD will bring several animals to find them new homes, thus freeing up space at the shelter for new arrivals.

About “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo”

The event is Friday, September 15 from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. For more details, visit MEET YOUR BEST FRIEND (SEPTEMBER)

About FAMD

After 22 years of nurturing nearly 50,000 animals as the Dearborn Animal Shelter, the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit has embarked on public phase of their “Our Animals Need A Home” capital campaign to construct a new Animal Adoption & Education Center at the site of the former Dearborn Amtrak station on Michigan Avenue. Construction begins in October. For more information about FAMD, visit metrodetroitanimals.org

“Deep in the Heart of Texas” How You Can Help the Victims of Hurricane Harvey

We are simply devastated by the scope of destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey this past week in Texas, (and pray that Louisiana is spared.)  The more I watch the more I feel helpless. I did want to share a few ways that you can help. If you click on the photo below, you will be taken to a blog post that our friends at Rumpy Dog wrote earlier in the week that lists fabulous ways that you can help.

Click on the photo to read Rumpy Dog’s suggestions on how you can help Texas in this awful tragedy.

Our friend, Paris at Dogtipper lives in the Austin area (and had to evacuate herself with FOUR PETS, read her tips on her sister blog Cattipper), today posted more ways that you can help on her blog.

The NY Times also posted ways that you can help.

Have an iPhone? Apple users in the U.S. can also donate to the American Red Cross through the company’s iTunes and app stores. Amounts range from $5 to $200, and you can’t use store credit.

If you are in the Detroit area as I am and would like to help, you can learn more about how to help below:
