Young Chef Suzie would like to re-energize your repertoire by introducing you to some delicious (and some might say exotic) dishes you can cook up in a single wok. Sure, they’ll look and taste marvelous when you set them out for your guests, but you won’t have to find a specialty Chinese food store or spend all day in a hot kitchen to prepare these fun-tasting (and even fun-sounding) masterpieces of the ancient art of the Orient.

And one of the things she’ll teach you is: When you’re traveling in a strange country, one of the best ways to make new friends is to cook them dinner!

Being a HUGE fan of Asian food, I decided to do something different this time! Reading the recipes in Kung Pao for Pekingese made me sooo hungry, so I decided to make a dish from the book! Here are some of the recipes you will find in Kung Pao for Pekingese:

I did change a few things but the end product came out DELICIOUS!

Logs Gliding Down River of Happiness

Spring Rolls with Dipping Sauces

1 scoop shrimp-shelled, deveined, julienned (I was lazy and bought FROZEN COOKED shrimp! I translated 1 scoop as being one cup)

1 scoop lean boneless pork, shredded (I love pork but husband doesn’t eat it, so I left it out)

1 scoop liver (or lamb) dog chow, chopped (I left that out too!)

1 bowl peanut oil (I used 2 tablespoons because I BAKED my egg rolls, I didn’t fry them!)

1 can mung bean sprouts ends removed (bought a can, who knows if they were “mung” and I never removed the ends)

1 egg white beaten (I skipped that)

Salt, sugar, soy sauce (skipped salt because everything is already salty!)

12 spring roll wrappers (I used Nasoya, fewer calories than normal ones!)

I have to say, even with my “tweaks” they were delicious!!!!! I made one of the dipping sauces too, but it came out a little to “ketchupy” for me, that could have easily been my fault!

As is the case with all of the books in this series, it is fun, humorous and the recipes DO work!! NOTE: obviously do NOT feed these recipes to your dog, it wouldn’t be good for them!

Another FUN feature of Kung Pao for Pekingese is that it has a section on Table Manners!!!  Some suggestions are:

  • Always wash your paws before you sit down
  • No bullying little dogs and puppies. Everyone is equal around the dinner table.
  • Drooling IS acceptable. (What better way to flatter your host?)

  1. I totally love this books… even just to read the tasty recipes is like candy for our stomach (with zero calories yay!). I will make a menu soon with cooking the same food, butt doggie-conform for Easy… hope we will have something with wheels soon that we can go shopping for the great food-pawty :o)
