One of three MHS walk locations throughout metro Detroit

to help homeless animals

The dogs have something new to bark about this year as the Michigan Humane Society’s 9th annual Mega March for Animals, the largest walk for animals in Michigan, will move to a new Detroit walk location – Belle Isle State Park – on October 12.  In addition, the Mega March will return to both Kensington Metropark in Milford and Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township on October 5. At all three walks, registration/check-in begins 9 a.m. and the two-mile walk kicks off at 10 a.m. Funds raised by the Mega March are critical to helping MHS transform animal lives from Homeless to Loved!

“The Michigan Humane Society is excited to bring the 2014 Mega March for Animals to Belle Isle as the newest of our three scenic walk locations, along with our return to Kensington Metropark and Stony Creek Metropark,” said David Williams, MHS interim president and CEO. “Animal lovers from across metro Detroit are invited to join us for this fun and festive event while making a difference for thousands of animals in need.”

To register as a team or individual walker, visit is easy and quick for each participant to set up a personalized webpage, share why they are getting involved, invite others to join or donate to their team, post social media updates, and track their fundraising progress.

The Belle Isle walk will take Mega Marchers on a two-mile route around the island with spectacular views of the park; the Kensington route will take walkers along the scenic shores of Kent Lake; and at Stony Creek, walkers will enjoy a stroll through woods. Those walking with a pet are asked to bring the pet’s current vaccination records and ensure the pet is on a leash or in a carrier at all times.

The 2014 Mega March for Animals is presented by Purina and sponsored by ATRS, Canine College, Comerica, Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group, PetSafe, Strategic Staffing Solutions, Taco Bell, U.S., VCA Animal Hospitals, Team Rehabilitation and PetSmart.

Through the generous support of its walk participants and supporters, the 2013 Mega March raised enough funds to change the lives of more than 2,300 animals in need.

“We’re hopeful that past walkers and new walkers alike will be inspired to join us and help make the 2014 Mega March the most impactful walk event yet for our beloved animals,” said Williams. “Every dollar, every walker will make a life-changing difference for animals.”
