It never gets easier.

benny cody and dakota

I love blogging, I truly do, but there are times like this one where it becomes an activity that I hate. There are too many dogs and cats crossing the Rainbow Bridge lately and the void we feel without them is simply devastating.

Bloggers spend much of their time flitting from blog to blog, laughing, learning, ooohing and ahhhing over photos and enjoying reading about adventures shared.  When asked, most of us couldn’t tell you the names of the bloggers behind the blogs, but ask us the names of their pets? Now THOSE NAMES we know!

The pets that we read about touch us in ways that we aren’t even cognizant of at the time, it is only when they are no longer with us that we begin to truly understand how much they meant to us.

Benny and Lily from Two French Bulldogs

Benny and Lily from Two French Bulldogs

Benny’s Mom, human, whatever you want to call her, had a way with oh-so-few words and through some fabulous photos, of sharing the feisty personalities of her beloved “Frenchies.” Through her dry wit and keen insight and understanding of her babies (Benny and Lily), she made us feel as if they were ours.

When they hurt, we hurt. Oh are we hurting.

Benny fought a brave fight with cancer, but he could only fight so much.

We guess God really needed an Angel.

Benny, Lily and “Mom” we love you, we hurt with you, and we DEEPLY THANK YOU for the joy you brought (and hopefully will still bring through sweet Lily) each and every time we visited your blog.

Benny, you were one insanely special little guy,

We will NEVER forget you and will ALWAYS miss you,

With much love and our deepest sympathy,

Dakota, Cody and Caren

We heard about Benny, poor guy put up one heck of a fight. Mom says it is so strange, we have never really met these furry friends but we cry buckets when they leave us. We still love all our blogging friends and wouldn’t trade them for anything but it is hard sometimes!

  6. That was a super post Dakota&Mom. I feel the same. My heart is as heavy as a rock and my tears are running, when I have to say bye. I admit, I have more feelings for the peeps&pets of Blogville than for my neighborhood. Maybe that sounds weirds, but it’s true.

  10. Caren, that was beautiful. I couldn’t have said it any better. We do form special bonds here in our blog world. Hopefully the shared caring we all have for one another eases some of the pain for those that are hurting.

Roxy thank you, I so wish I never had to write it and that adorable Benny was still here 🙁 Love, Caren

  11. Just beautiful, Caren. And I so know what you mean. When I learned about Pip last week, I started crying and my husband asked me what was wrong. I tried to explain how even though I don’t know them in person, I feel like I DO know them and I certainly know what their humans are going through. It’s been a tough couple of weeks. My heart hurts for Benny’s family. He was so loved and will be so missed.

Mayzie THANK YOU!! I wanted to include Pip and some others and some cats but many, while we LOVED them, we didn’t know them for as long or as well as we knew Benny. When Pip crossed the Bridge it tore us apart as well…what a spirited, wonderful little guy….and so many cats too! Yes, I was telling my husband the same. I had said that when the babies pass on, that is the part about blogging that I have such a hard time handling. It devastates me. ((((hugs)))) and thank you. I wish it didn’t have to be written though. Love, Caren

  12. What a wonderful tribute. There has been too much sadness in Blogville this past week. We are hoping the Halloween bash next week will help lift our spirits.

  18. So sad. Whee know that there is nothing that compares to the pain of losing a pet. However despite the sadness whee all feel, the support and kind network of the blogsphere means that Benny’s Mummy and Lily will feel comforted at least. Whee know our Mummy was.

Run free little Benny, you fought bravely

Poor Benny, he sure out up a hard fight with that cancer, but I guess it was too strong. At least there’s none of that over the bridge, I bet he’ll have a super time with Mr Pip.

  20. That was a lovely tribute for the dear departed Benny, October’s not been a good month for blogvilles fur babies with so many crossing over the Rainbow Bridge.

All I can say is there’s going to be one hell of a good Howl-O-Ween party up there.

With that post i think you’ve spoke up for all of blogville on how we’re all feeling right now.

You are so right about knowings everybodys pets name but not knowing the person behind the blog.

    RIP Benny.

The beautiful thing about getting to know other pet parents and reading blogs of pet parents is you know you are never alone and that others can share your joy and your sorrow. It’s very comforting. I didn’t know Benny, but thanks to you Dakota and your mom I can now say a prayer for his family. Rest in peace sweet Benny.

  30. A great post.

For years I and my cats have shared purrs and purrayers with those who head for the Bridge and I knew that, someday, it would be time for Nikita to make that journey.

The past few days have shown me how caring our community can be in times like this.
